In the 21st century, technology has come to define every aspect of our lives. Yet, there is still a divide, between the rich and the poor. Technology for peace is an initiative by Erasmus, funded by the European Union which seeks to address this growing divide through technological intervention. Technology for Peace also focuses on the need to bridge the digital divide between the youth of the world. Considering today’s political sentiments of nationalism and border control, technology for peace seeks to build bridges and create peace around the world. As part of this project, we are developing a platform that provides opportunities for the youth to volunteer in India and around the world. This collaborative effort involves five organizations: International Edu Center, IGEEI, CSDS, FSL India, and Reigionalne Centrum Wolontariatu from Romania, the Philippines, Vietnam, India, and Poland, respectively.
The kick-off meeting for the project was organised in Romania where representatives from the five partner organisations met and discussed the plans for the project. This was followed by a training in the Philippines where teams of participants from the five countries – Romania, Poland, Philippines, Vietnam and India took part in discussions pertaining to the development of the platform for volunteering. During this time, the teams also visited universities in the Philippines where they spoke about their respective organisations and the volunteering opportunities available for students. The next phase of the project was conducted in Vietnam where the progress of the volunteering platform was presented. The participants provided feedback and suggestions for improvement of the platform and also engaged in discussions to decide a vision for the future of the platform.. The upcoming phase of the project in India will include the launch of the platform. The platform will be introduced to groups of university students in the country.
